Burglar Enters Home and Visits Another. . . Carried Off $40 from James Laffety During Night—Frightened Off at Other Home

Three homes here were visited by a thief last night and residents of others are certain the man tried to enter them. So far s the police know, however, the man gained entrance only to the home of Dr. J. S. Lafferty, where he stole $40 from James Lafferty, and mrs. H. B. Parks, where he got a small sum.

Persons in the home of L. M Richmond of Georgia Avenue were awakened about 3 o’clock by a noise on the front porch, and Miss Willie Richmond saw a man looking in a front window. She could not tell whether he was white or black. The man ran as soon as he saw someone in the house was awake.

At the Lafferty home no one heard the intruder and his visit was not known until Dr. Lafferty and Mr. Lafferty missed the pants they wore yesterday. Later the garments were found on the front porch of the home and Mr. Lafferty reports that two new $20 bills were taken from his. There was only a small amount of change in Dr. Lafferty’s.

Several persons when told of the robbery said they heard noises about their homes during the night and were of the opinion that the same intruder or a pale tried to gain entrances to their homes.

There was a light burning in the Richmond home and its glow could be detected from the streets, but this fact did not frighten off the intruder who apparently struck a chair or something as he walked on the porch.

At the home of Mrs. Parks, who is out of town, the thief or thieves got two or three dollars from M. F. Richie and a small amount of change from M. F. Ritchie Jr. No one heard any intruders and the robbery was not known until trousers belonging to M F. Jr. were found in the living room of the home this morning.

Under a window in the living room two tracks were seen this morning, one apparently that of a child and the other of a man. Both were bare-footed.

The thieves did not enter the room where Mr. and Mrs. Ritchie were sleeping. Mrs. Ritchie had a small amount of money in a purse there and it was not touched. Some hunting pants which Mr. Ritchie had left in a rear hall had been moved and about $3 taken from them.

Police have no clue as to the identity of the robbers.
