Charlotte, Sept. 18 (AP)—The Charlotte News says today that a movement has been started by the Ku Klux Klan here looking to the deportation of “Rt. Rev. Bishop” C. M. Grace, Portuguese “faith healer.”
The article says that the Klan action was decided upon as the result of an article appearing in the new Bedford, Mass., Sunday Standard which published the alleged record of the “bishop” in the East.
“We have the machinery to take this matter direct to the federal government, and we do not expect to cease our efforts until this alien is deported,” the Klan leaders are quoted as saying.
Editor’s Note: Bishop Grace was born Marcelino Manuel de Graca in Cape Verde, which was a Portuguese territory at that time. His family moved to the United States when he was a child and he went by the name of Charles Manuel Grace. His church just celebrated its 100th birthday, and there are dozens of United House of Prayers in North Carolina.
