The process of changing North Carolina and this part of the South from an agricultural to an industrial section goes apace. Announcement is made of plans for a huge hydro-electric project near Danville, Virginia. From Badin a few days ago came news of beginning of work on an additional plant for the Tallassee Power company. This plant is to represent an investment of $15 million and will develop thousands of horsepower in electricity. From Henderson a few weeks ago came word of a new project just over the line in Virginia but intended to serve both North Carolina and Virginia with power. The project is also spoken as of gigantic proportions.
It is such projects at these that are accomplishing the change in North Carolina and the South. Another 15 years will see as great a change as has the past 15 years. Eastern Carolina will figure most prominently in the change of this state.
Editor’s Note: Perhaps industrialization of the South would have happened if the stock market hadn’t crashed and the Great Depression begun in 1929.
