Mr. R. A. Spencer, for many years a leading citizen of Roxboro, died at his home on Reams Avenue yesterday evening at 10:30. He had been critically ill for a long time, having suffered a paralytic stroke from which he never recovered. He was 67 years of age.
Mr. Spencer was a native of Viriginia but has been living in Person County and Roxboro for something like 35 years. He leaves a wife and four children, three daughters, Mrs. A. R. Warren of Roxboro, Mrs. F. A. Woody of Lynchburg, Va., and Mrs. T. E. Jeter of Southerlin, Va., and one son, Mr. R.M. Spencer, who was associated with him in business here.
Mr. Spencer was prominent in the life of the town and community, was a deacon in the First Baptist Church, a Mason of prominence, having been Worshipful Master of the lodge here, and a member of other fraternal organizations.
The funeral services will be conducted at the First Baptist Church tomorrow, Thursday afternoon, at 2 o’clock, led by his pastor, Rev. W. F. West.
