Raleigh, Sept. 13—Rev. George Wood, Universalist preacher who is to be tried for killing convict J. B. Vickers while bringing the escaped prisoner back to Raleigh, will not make any disclosure of his case until the jury hears him.
The Rev. Mr. Wood will not avail himself of a preliminary hearing today but submitted to bond and left his case with his lawyers, James H. Pou, W. and B. Jones and State Democratic Chairman John G. Dawson. The Rev. Mr. Wood is a Universalist. The church is not blood thirsty. It opposes capital punishment, but it does not believe that the preacher practiced it on the prisoner. The fatal shooting is accepted as an accident.
Mr. Wood will probably be tried at the present term of court. There has been a suggestion that his case will be continued.
