Mr. Dan Shaw Kirkman has accepted a position as manager of the Pender store here to succeed Mr. Cooper, who has been transferred to Sanford. Smithfield regrets to lose Mr. Cooper, who has made many friends during his stay here, but it is a matter for congratulation that Mr. Kirkman, a home boy, has been chosen as his successor. Mr. Kirkman is the youngest son of Mr. J. H. Kirkman of this city. Coincidentally with the acceptance of this position is his 18th birthday. It is quite an honor and a credit to so young a man to be selected for the position.
