On the night of March 11, fire destroyed the barn of Mr. H.M. Propes, in the Golden Valley section, causing a heavy loss. Besides the barn, there were two mules, two cows, a fine brood sow and a large quantity of feed destroyed.
Mr. Propes was strongly under the impression that the fire was of incendiary origin. Bloodhounds were brought from Asheville, but on account of there having been so many persons about the premises following the fire, the dogs could not be used.
