C.P.K. Motor Company to House Buicks in First All-Steel Building in Burlington, Oct. 25, 1926

C.P.K. Motor Company Building the First All-Steel Building in Burlington

A new era in the building and development of Burlington dawned today when a battery of air guns went to work hammering rivets on the new $75,000 home of the C.P.K. Motor Company, Buick dealers, on South Main.

It’s the first time in the life of the city that this work has been done on an all-steel frame construction building. The distinction of the first steel building will forever belong to this progressive firm, under the management of J. W. Patterson.

The Joilet Bridge and Iron Company, headed by Earl B. Horner, also of this city, furnished the steel. The incessant rattle of the hammers against the rivets has attracted scores of people to the scene today, to see how it is done.

Air riveting has been done in the county for many years, but the most of it on the steel bridge as they supplanted the old wooden structures across streams on the important highways, and today on the less important roads.

Mr. Patterson said today that the building will be completed not later than January 1. It is hoped, he said, that it may be ready for him to move his plant by December 15.

The new home when complete will be one of the most modern garage buildings in the state, with the entire space above the ground reserved for sales and stock rooms. The mechanical department will be in the basement, which is very large and especially designed.
