Laughter Says He Escaped the Pen
Asheville, July 9—Andy Laughter, alias Joe Jackson, was captured after a gun battle on Forge Mountain near the Henderson-Transylvania county line by Sheriff Grant of Henderson County, at sunrise, Wednesday. The afternoon following, the prisoner called the sheriff to this cell, it is said, and confessed that he had escaped from the State’s prison last January. Laughter was sentenced in 1911 for second degree murder of his wife in Polk county.
