Sunday, July 3rd, was a high day for the members and friends of the Mt. Calvary A.M.E. Zion church, Monroe, N.C. The cornerstone for the beautiful new building, which is indeed a pride to the community, was laid. The services were conducted in the afternoon by the Masonic Fraternity, assisted by the Odd Fellows. An address was delivered by Rev. C.C. Horne, D.D. Rev. M.D. Lee, D.D. of Lancaster, S.C., preached a powerful sermon, which stirred the people and gave them great inspiration.
The morning sermon was ably preached by Rev. D.V. Blakeney.
Money raised for the day was $347.42. Rev. Geo. W. Hunter and his flock deserve great credit for the splendid work they are doing to put Monroe to the fore in church building and Christian effort. They will surely be ready for conference.
