Salisbury, July 23—The Whitehead-Stokes sanatorium, one of the best-known institutions of its kind in the State, is to be closed unless it can be turned into a general hospital. A committee of 17 citizens headed by W.F. Snyder, well-known local banker, is preparing to solicit stock among the citizens for the purpose of keeping the institution open as a general hospital.
The city aldermen have decided that the petition calling for a bond election is not of sufficient proportions and not in true form. Consequently they have ordered the issuance without an election of $75,000 of bonds to take care of water and sewer extensions now being put down.
