A murder last Sunday night caused by drinking reminds us of the dastard deed in north Wilkes Tuesday of last week near McGrady when five or six stacks of fine clover hay [were] destroyed by fire.
The hay was that of Mr. Dock Absher. The blood hounds brought from Catawba trailed the suspects and one or more were lodged in jail where now they are awaiting trial and the court.
Mr. Absher says it was the liquor business which caused his seven big stacks of hay to be burned. The man who brought over the blood hounds or the owner of them said the catching of these incendiaries will be worth $20,000 to Wilkes county, which will show that people are not going to put up with it, and he is right.
