Tom Reid, negro convict, escaped from the Norton, Va., camps, was one of the half-dozen negroes captured in Brooklyn Sunday afternoon while engaged in a crap game. Reid, a Charlotte negro with a bad record, was sentenced to the chain gang camp from Washington, D.C., for pickbocketing.
Detectives D.B. Bradly, G.M. Riley, J.D. Johnson, Staten and Carl Johnson swooped down upon the crap-shooters while the dice were hitting seven and 'levens at a fast clip. Reid will be returned to Washington authorities where he will be tried for his escape from the camp.
