Court Adjourned Late Yesterday

The February term of Wilson County Superior Court adjourned late yesterday afternoon until Monday morning when Judge N.A. Sinclair will preside over the civil term of court. The next criminal term will convene in May.

Several cases were disposed of during the afternoon prior to the adjournment, among which was the case of Mary Sterling charged with running a house of prostitution. A pleas of guilty was entered by her attorney, who stated that after appealing her case from Mayor’s Court she decided to leave town. Judgment was suspended in the case upon the payment of court costs. The other 40-odd cases against prostitutes were continued until the next term of court.

J.M. King was suspended to 12 months on the roads when he entered a plea of guilty on a charge of forgery.

Tom Pawell, charged with distilling, nol prossed.

Hines Pridgen, charged with having carnal knowledge of a girl under 16 years of age, verdict of not guilty was returned by the jury.

Haywood Knight was sentenced to 8 months on the roads for the larceny of tobacco.

A.E. Mosley plead guilty to violating the liquor law and was fined $100 and costs.

Starky Lewis, Dal Simms, Kenneth Barnes, Sonnie Lewis and Alex Murphy charged with larceny of a buggy, case nol prossed.

Malachi Adkerson, house breaking and larceny, nol prossed.
