Wilkes County Poultry Association Makes Plans, Feb. 11, 1925

County Poultry Association Meets at Commercial Club. . . Picnic Is Practically Agreed on for Next Summer. . . Mrs. Hemphill Attended Raleigh Meeting. . . Many New Members Have Joined

The Wilkes County Poultry Association met last Friday at the Commercial Club rooms. The meeting was attended by many of its members and each member was enthusiastic over the poultry possibilities in the county. Mr. W.T. Kilby, vice-president of the association, presided over the meeting. The secretary announced that several new members had joined since last month’s meeting, January 2nd.

Mrs. J.L. Hemphill, who recently took a short course in poultry raising at Raleigh, was present and on being called upon to make an impromptu talk, and among other things urged the importance of joining the State Poultry Association, and also requested the County Agricultural Agent to secure the State Poultry Agent to visit the county and hold demonstration meetings in the different sections, with the hope of stimulating more interest and giving valuable information. The association was heartily in favor of the above request and suggested the later part of March as being a suitable time for Mr. Oliver, of the poultry department at Raleigh, to visit the county—dates to be announce later.

It was practically agreed upon that a barbecue picnic would be held at the home of A.G. Hendren on the Brushy Mountain on Saturday, July 4th. Mr. Hendren agreed to furnish the barbecue meats. A great time is anticipated.

The advisability of holding a three-day county fair this fall was discussed and seemed to meet the approval of all members present. The officers of the association were instructed to appoint a committee of three from the Wilkes Poultry Association to confer with organizations in the county with the view of having a three-day fair next fall.

Mr. J.C. Henry, proprietor the Wilkes Hatchery, was present and made a talk. He extended a cordial invitation to all members of the association to visit the Wilkes Hatchery.
