One store in Concord and another in a suburb of Concord were entered by thieves Friday night, police officers wee advised this morning. A small amount of cash and some goods were taken from the two stores.
The Yates store at Brown Mill was entered from the rear, the thieves making away with some gingham cloth, several sweaters, a number of cigarettes and other goods. The robbers left no clues, it was said at police headquarters.
The Barnhardt store in this city also was entered during the night but the thief got only a few pennies as he was detected while at work. The store is located on West Depot street and the thief was seen in the store by Sara Hopkins, special police officer, who tried to make an arrest. Patrolman Hopkins rushed to the rear of the store building when he detected the thief, but the intruder saw the officer and had rushed from the building. The officer fired at the fleeing man several times but could not overtake him.
The manager of the store advised the officers that only a few pennies which had been left in the cash drawer were missing. Several sacks full of goods had been piled on the floor of the store by the thief but in his quick exit he did not have time to take them.
