Drainage Case to be Tried April 4

The case of the State against the Newland township drainage commissioners will not be tried until Saturday, April 4. This agreement was reached in police court Saturday morning when attorneys for the defendants asked ?? time for the case.

J.N. Williams, E.C. ??, and Jordan C. Harris, Newland township farmers, will be tried for failure to comply with the law in matters relating to the sale of drainage district bonds and also relating to the rendering of an account of their ?? and expenditures as drainage commissioners.

J.C.B. Eringhaus will assist J.L. Cohoon for the defense while P.W. McMullan and Aydlett & Simpson will assist the State in the prosecution.

For riding freight cars, Le Roy Duncan and Fred Becknell, who live in the mill district of the city, were tried at Saturday’s session of police court. They were required to pay the costs of court.

John Banks, colored, for assault on a colored girl, paid a fine of $5 and costs.
