By Mrs. C.J. Ammons
Lumber Bridge, March 14—Mr. and Mrs. Simon Gaitley of Parkton were Lumber Bridge visitors Sunday afternoon.
Mrs. Douglass Smith delightfully entertained Saturday night at four tables of Progressive rook in honor of her houseguest Miss Vivian McNeill of Lumberton. The decorations, symbolic of St. Patrick’s day, were lovely. Refreshments of “heavenly hash”, cake and grape juice carried out the idea also. After serving refreshments, the lights were turned out and green candles set In Irish potatoes were lighted and sued as light while eating. Miss Benthall received a deck of rick cards for highest score. She in turn passed them over to Miss McNeill. Mrs. Ridenhour received a booby, a lighted candle, in hopes that she would be a better rook player in the future. Those present spent a most delightful evening.
State High School Supervisor L.L. Lohr examined the Lumber Bridge high school last week and the Lumber Bridge people are proud to say that we have everything in the way of equipment and teachers to entitle us to an accredited high school. Prof. L.F. Fogleman, however, has not heard from Mr. Highsmith, but we feel confident that he will place our school on the accredited list.
The school and patrons appreciate very much the work of the Woman’s auxiliary of the Presbyterian church have done in helping the school library. They presented the school with 158 volumes last Monday.
Lots of our folks enjoyed the famous picture, “Powder River” at the Grand theatre, St. Pauls, this week.
Mr. and Mrs. Ruffin Powers of St. Pauls spent Sunday here visiting Mrs. Powers’ sister, Mrs. Lena Breeden. Mr. Frank Tolar motored to Wilmington Monday where he spent the day on business.
