Eugene Smith's Car is in Newark, N.J., Oct. 11, 1924

New Development in Disappearance Case

High Point, Oct. 10—A local man returning from Newark, N.J., says the automobile of Eugene Smith, High Point citizen who disappeared in Florida last year, is in a Newark garage. The car was left there, the garageman told O.L. Lackey of this city, by a man who gave his name as Smith, gave High Point as his residence, and said that he wished to store the machine for some days because of ill health.

This information furnishes a new angle to the mystery of Smith’s disappearance. His brother and a friend here sought him or trace of him in Florida, but gave up the hunt some months ago.

Smith went to Florida, was supposed to have been victimized by a band of thieves who got several thousand dollars from him, and who were believed to have murdered him.
