Thomas Cooper on Trial for His Part in Bank Failure, Oct. 4, 1924

Trial of Thomas E. Cooper for Part in Bank Failure, Southport, To Be Held in New Hanover County

By the Associated Press

Southport, N.C., Oct. 3—Indictment pending in Brunswick county against Thomas E. Cooper in connection with the failure of the Bank of Southport, of which he was president, was today ordered removed from this county to New Hanover for trial.

The order granting a change of venue was signed by Judge Henry A. Grady, after a motion had been offered by Herbert McClammy and W.F. Jones, attorneys for Cooper.

They had presented an affidavit signed by Cooper setting forth that he had been threatened with bodily harm should he visit Southport and declaring that he did not believe a fair trial would be possible in this county.
