Hagans was convicted on a charge of manslaughter, resulting from the killing of Otto King, another black, late last summer, and was sentenced to serve not less than two years nor more than three in the state penitentiary.

A charge of abduction was brought against Thigpen, who ran away with a Mrs. Letchworth, wife of a Wilson county farmer, entered a plea of nolo contender and was sentenced to serve from two to three years, which was later reduced to a sentence of from one to two years.
