Charlotte U. Freshmen Attend "Tacky Party," Oct. 4, 1924

Juniors Entertain Freshmen with a Tacky Party. . . Mabel Cross Wins Prize

About 7:30 on Saturday night, Sept. 28, curious looking people began to come from different rooms in both halls. They said they were going to a tacky party, and indeed they looked the part. Many of them were contestants for the prize of tackiest but the judges decided that Mabel Cross was deserving of the honor. Mabel was dressed in all the colors of the rainbow and large spectacles, while red and purple freckles added to the general effect of loveliness.

When all had gathered in the gym, a grand march was formed in which every one took part while Miss Brasington, the junior sponsor, played a march at the piano. Then dancing was enjoyed, Byrd Duckworth playing the piano and Lena Carter at the drums. Then Paul Jones was played the Juniors insisted that every one take part, even though she could not dance and all tried to carry out the spirit of the game by doing her best. Some wanted to continue this even after most had stopped and each time the music stopped would start around in a circle again.

At slightly after 9 o’clock the Juniors served to the Freshmen lemonade, apples, candy and chewing gum. There was a mad rush to catch the apples as they were pitched from the door, and candy disappeared as if by magic.

Then some of the guests began to leave, while others remained to dance a little while longer. At the 10 o’clock bell, the last of the Juniors and Freshmen began to leave, each declaring that they had had a grand time.
