J.C. Elmore, Fired Conductor, Awarded $20,000, Oct. 7, 1924

Conductor Elmore Awarded Verdict. . . He Was Charged with Selling Tickets Which He Failed to Punch

Halifax, Oct. 4—Capt. J.C. Elmore, discharged Atlantic Coast Line conductor, has won out here in his suit for slander against the railroad system. He sued for $50,000. The jury awarded him $20,000. The cast took the time of Halifax Superior Court, Judge C.C. Lyon presiding from Wednesday morning to late Friday night.

C.M. Cobb, Division Superintendent, charged that Elmore failed to punch tickets and turned them over to the agent at Norfolk for resale, sharing the profits with the agent.

Elmore has also sued for $200,000 damage for wrongful discharge.
