Miss Genevive Mollenhoff, professional director of the local talent play to be given under the auspices of the National Lyceum System of Washington, D.C. will arrive in Columbus, Oct. 24, and will remain until November 4th, getting up either the play “Daddy Longlegs” or “Come Out of the Kitchen.” The play will be given in the school auditorium November 3rd.

Miss Elizabeth McMurry, popular member of the Stearns High School faculty, spent last weekend in Charlotte. While there she was a guest of friends at her Alma Mater, Queens College.

Rev. and Mrs. S.A. Stroupe attended the South Fork Association which met in Hickory last Thursday and Friday.

Mrs. Marie G. Carnegie of Rutherford, N.C., visited old friends in Columbus a few days last week.

Mr. Nelson Moss of Mill Spring was the first man to have a bale of cotton ginned at the new Polk County Gin.

Mrs. S.E. Williams, Mrs. Ben Blackwell and children of Hendersonville spent last week-end with Mrs. Major Hutchison.

Mr. and Mrs. Roy Ward of Saluda spent last week-end with the latter’s parents, Sheriff and Mrs. G.L. Thompson.

Messrs. N.T. Mills, L.L. Tallant, C.V. Thompson and Rev. S.A. Stroup will leave Friday morning to attend the Green River Assocation at Green Hill in Rutherford County, which will meet there Friday and Saturday.

Mr. and Mrs. R.T. Ledbetter of Rutherfordton visited the latter’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. T.M. Lynch last week-end.

Miss Pearl Metcalf has returned to her home in Tryon after a week’s visit with her aunt, Mrs. Major Hutchison.

Mrs. J.W. McIntosh, Miss Celeste Leggett, Miss chandler, Miss Lorraine Rinehart and Mr. A.D. Huffine spent Saturday in Spartanburg shopping.

The Stearns High School boys defeated the Landrum boys in their final game of baseball this season on the Columbus diamond last Friday afternoon, the score being 2 to 4 in their favor. The team has consisted of the following boys: Jacob Cobb, Thomas Edwards, Earnest Rhodes, Julian Lynch, Sidney Smith, Ralph Tallant, Max Feagan, Clyde Pitman and Dewitt Smith.
