On Tuesday evening at 9:30 Miss Hannah Claire Newman was visited by a group of girls and given a surprise party. Refreshments consisting of cake and punch were served by Miss Carrie Bell Kernodle. Much excitement followed when the birthday cake was cut, Miss Newman cutting the ring, Miss Rosebud Kimball, the money and Miss Ruth Kimball, the thimble. Those enjoying the “merry Making” were: Misses Hannah Clair Newman, Carrie Bell Kernodle, Anne Phillips, Ruth and Rosebud Kimball, Susie Elder, Emma Morgan, Elizabth and Mae Patterson, Olyn Burnett, Clarene Lincoln, Margaret Rowland, Mary Lee Williams, Lillian Harrell, Kate Strader, Ruby Atkinson and Lula Kernodle of Burlington, N.C.
